Dynapumps worked on a diesel-driven Emergency Flush Pump for an open pit gold operation. The skid utilises a large Hydra-Cell Q155E pump which can deliver up to 600 Litres per minute at a pressure of up to 103 Bar, driven by a CAT 3054CTA diesel engine which outputs 86kW at 1700rpm.
A WPT mechanical clutch is employed to disengage and engage the diesel engine with the belt drive system, which drives the pump. We’re using 5 x Gates Predator belts with Gates SPB pulleys to drive the pump at its maximum working speed of 450rpm.
We wanted to remove the requirement for an idler pulley on this assembly, given the alignment requirements and faster belt wear from the contact with an additional pulley, so we’ve positioned the diesel engine on a slidable base frame that can be moved to tension the belts as required. The frame can move, either loosening or tightening the nuts on a length of threaded rod connected to a weld-on plate on the base frame. We’ve used laser-cut nylon pads to ensure that the base frame surface protection is not damaged when tensioning.
All fabrication work is done in-house at Dynapumps, including the 210L single-skin fuel tank on the skid. A Kensho K27 controller is used to monitor and control the diesel engine.
