A large meat processor was looking to convert their process from conveyor belts to pumping the product through an extrusion device. They found that with their highly viscous meat being in a nearly frozen state could not pull into the existing pump effectively and achieve the pressures necessary to move the product through the pipelines.
The solution for the customer was to install a Waukesha Cherry-Burrell (WCB) model UTS-130 pump directly on the outlet of the auger feeder unit. The Waukesha Cherry-Burrell Twin Screw pump not only provided sufficient flow at the low inlet pressures and high differential pressures required, but the customer was also able to achieve a smooth and even flow rate making the extrusion of the meat extremely consistent.
The customer also discovered an additional benefit of the twin-screw pump when the process ran out of meat to fill the auger. The Waukesha Cherry-Burrell UTS pump did not cavitate or require any special handling to re-prime the pump.
