rotary lobe pump for conveying C starch

A large wheat mill uses a Boerger ONIXline rotary lobe pump for conveying very abrasive C starch. The wheat starch is separated from the wheat gluten in a three-phase decanter. A by-product arises in the process, the so-called C starch. The C starch with a viscosity of up to 5,000 mPas runs from the decanter into an underflow tank. The underflow tank is equipped with a fill level sensor and must not be filled with more than 20 – 30% of its volume. As soon as the threshold value has been exceeded, the Boerger ONIXline rotary lobe pump sucks the C starch from the underflow tank and pumps it into the product tank. The by-product is stored here as long as it is collected by tanker trucks for further use as animal feed.

The ONIXline rotary lobe pump operates 24 hours on 7 days a week for 365 days a year. The speed and, thus, the flow rate is regulated by means of control technology. The pump is equipped with Boerger double-acting mechanical seals. The seals designed as a cartridge unit are pressurized by means of a barrier pressure system. This prevents any pumped medium from penetrating between the sliding surfaces of the seals.

The operators of the mill are very satisfied with the Boerger ONIXline rotary lobe pump. The pump has operated without interruptions since its installation. Replacing the wear parts has not been necessary so far.
