The challenge was the customer experienced delays in maintaining a fleet of pumps for transferring highly abrasive liquid slurry for Hexamethylenediamine production. The pumps transports a combination of Adiponitrile, Hydrogen, and Ni-based catalysts to a reactor where it was hydrogenated to produce HDMA, an ingredient of nylon 66. The abrasive material caused the pumps to leak and require unscheduled maintenance, which result in product delays and operational inefficiency.
The NOVADOS diaphragm pump was the answer to meet their needs, specifically engineered to reduce wear, a triplex ball valve with hardened material design to transfer the highly abrasive slurry. Because the solution included variable stroke speeds, the pump was optimised to efficiently process the slurry — and fast sedimentation was avoided.
The result is the customer has been using the pumps for more than two years without a failure or loss of production due to unplanned maintenance. The NOVADOS diaphragm pump is engineered for reliability and is a perfect solution for harsh and abrasive environments.
